Falling

leaves are everywhere!

Happy Equinox ~~**~~

At each equinox, the sun crosses the Earth's equator, making night and day of approximately equal length on most of the planet (from the Latin, equinox means "equal night"). At the equator, the sun is directly overhead at noon on either equinox.

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.

~George Eliot~

falling leaves

so quietly

~John Bailey~
Autumn, A Haiku Year

Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.
I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.

Autumn is my favourite season. I love the cool crisp freshness in the air - and of course - the vibrant colours that nature brings.

One of my favourite songs is about autumn too. Here are the lyrics:

I sense Autumn coming on
The mist has hung low all day
Small birds gather on the wing
Preparing to make their way.

The trees begin to show
A trace of brown among the green
Bringing back the memories
That only you and I have seen.

I sense Autumn coming on
The sun sinking red and deep
The fires burning in the fields
As late Summer falls asleep.

The leaves begin to scatter
As the North wind calls their name
Folding gently back into
The silent earth from which they came.

Yes Grace I remember missing crispy Autumn leaves and apples when we lived in California and Arizona.

Grace and Lucy The photos were random ones selected from Google. Aren't they gorgeous? Our leaves are not yet that brilliant. But soon they will be and soon I will have photos! :o) Fall fever is a good one Lucy!

Lesley,
I had a listen to that song "Autumn" by the Strawbs. What a funny name. I had not heard of the group or don't remember them. The music on this one is so ethereal. It's perfect for setting Autumn to music. Fantastic.

Starting to see the fresh apple cider here and there. Fall festivals are beginning. Fresh pumpkin pie. Oh! It's a lovely time of year.

Hope everyone is well this week.

Oh Tink! I love those little snippets. Fall is my favourite time of year and the poems help bring it to life! I especially like Robert Frost's.
It is fall here, too. I have the fire lit and I'm doing my bookwork while basking in the fire's radiant heat. It is really quite decadent! As long as I don't fall asleep... lol
The geese are honking their V's southward down the lake and the poplar's golden leaves are whispering and rattling before drifting casually to the ground.

It sounds like you enjoy Autumn, too!

Did you know that you can balance an egg upright on it's larger end only on the equinox?
Both, Vernal and Autumnal.
I do it every year - just because.

You ladies are SOOOOO poetic! :o)

Dale, my son Orion loves to tell people that you can balance an egg like that any time. lol It's hard to do, but it can be done. We try it every once in a while and usually get it to work after a couple tries!

A couple years ago, we thought that would be a blast to do every Equinox and record it. Then, one year I did a blog post on the subject (can't remember when now) and discovered that it can be done! Orion was right all along. :o) Somehow in his eagerness to test out certain ideas/theories ... it burst my little fantasy bubble and I was annoyed. LOL :-P But, I did give him lots of praise and encouragement while hiding my disappointment. I always feel like that when my favorite "myths" are bused. LOL!

Yes, thank you so much ... my birthday is today! 53 and counting. Isn't there a reality TV show called 53 and Counting? It's about card sharks, I think.
The show reveals the secrets of the proverbial "card up the sleeve" when gambling. So people go to Vegas poker games and try to cheat the house.

Oh wait! I'm sorry ... that show was set in Washington, DC.

(I'm joking, of course) :o)

XOXO
