Healing Hands and Fingerpaints

When our daughter was around 4 years old, Sarah told me that she had "healing hands." And she does have the charismatic touch of a healer. Today, Sarah was feeling a little "sad" and decided to use those "healing hands" to help some friends who needed some healing. That's our Sarah! When she's feeling down ... she goes about to help others. It's her way. Our son Ben was listening to Sarah in a quiet way and put on some music. While the soundtrack from the King and I played, Ben spun in circles as is his way and Sarah created a "healing" picture with her hands and her fingerpaints. I thought it was beautiful all around. Her use of colors is masterful.

People sometimes ask why I often [okay ... sometimes] use the term "our" in reference to the children, knowing that I am no longer with their father. It's one of the ways I try to decrease overall objectifying these little treasures as "possessions." I do forget and fall into the old reference to "my" more than I like. But, they are given to us as gifts and are placed in our care for guidance and nurturing. And one day, I know they will fly from the nest and go out and about as adults in a loving, respectful, nurturing, and caring Way. This is my greatest hope & prayer for the children: that they receive as much love as they give and they go about in the world with confidence in themselves. These children are my role models for love without conditions. And when I stumble and become less than loving and downright pissy or mean, they have no hesitation in correcting me. Sometimes they are more teacher to others and myself, than seems possible. They are my greatest Joy and whoever views Sarah's picture and may have felt the sweet music of Shall We Dance ~ we hope you felt the love and compassion from two special children.
