Strawberry Kisses, Grandma

Wrote this a few years ago for Grandmothers. Happy 80 th Birthday, Mom ... 8/5/05

Grandmother

Grandma, Nana, Vavo, Gammy,
Mother, Friend, Seals named Sammy.
Sticky hands, boo boo kisses,
Prayers and love and dreams and wishes.

Mother’s love passed heart to hand,
Strawberry kisses all over again.

Heart to heart, one by one,
Greeting each dawn and when day is done,
Rising moons, starry nights,
Warm milk, warm hearts, cozy lights.

Boundless, unconditional,
Sometimes oppositional.
Often whimsical, but always pure love
Guided and lighted by the One up above.

Mother’s love passed heart to hand,
Strawberry kisses all over again.

Eyes of my own child, spirit so full,
Born anew, wisdom burning, my own soul.
Yes, do you realize Grandma, gazing with pride,
You are seeing yourself in those loving eyes.

Mother’s love passed heart to hand,
Strawberry kisses all over again.

Child of your own within, grandmother,
You taught us not to judge books by the cover.
Look in the mirror, remember your own light,
Touched by God’s angels, you were so right.

Mother’s love passed heart to hand,
Strawberry kisses all over again.
