Of Covenants and Rainbows We Are

Regular readers may recall that as our daughter Sarah approached her 7th Birthday, (May 21st) she decided that her wish for her birthday would be whatever we would like to do for her. All she hoped for was a small bottle of red nail polish suitable for a little girl. Through Sarah's astonishingly mature viewpoint and in her innocent and humble non-expectation, she was gifted by the Real Powers That Be in our World. First, she awoke the morning of her birthday to find a gift from the Tooth Fairy, after declaring the day before, "I gots a new toof for my birthday!" After a day filled with many surprises for Sarah [including the red nail polish], we shared Mom's Homemade Strawberry Shortcake Themed cake creation which she declared was the best birthday cake ever. As she told us that it was her best birthday, a rapidly-moving and loud thunder and lightning storm blew through the area like a whirlwind. As the remnants of rain softly pattered on the window panes, we watched a series of low, swirling pink clouds move from West to East over the house. Looking East, we were overwhelmed with Joy at the presence of an amazingly and predominantly green, yellow, and pink DOUBLE rainbow.

Needless to say, Sarah felt immediately that this double Arc was, indeed, the best gift of all. Both boys had significant events in their lives heralded by rainbows. Orion's on the day of his birth and Ben's on a day that he overcame a significant challenge in his young life. Now, all three children will have special Rainbow memories in their lives.

Some, when interpreting scripture, believe that the Rainbow is symbolic of and for God's Covenant with the People. Being of humble circumstances, our actual possessions are few. Most of what we have to offer each other and to friends/family would be what we can give of our hearts, spirit, our love, the work of our hands. Hence, we are so immensely grateful for these gifts of Faith and Love and the reminders of such rewards from the Powers of Heaven.

Here is what the Book of Revelation reveals about Rainbows:

Rev 4:2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and [one] sat on the throne.

Rev 4:3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and [there was] a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

One day, a while before Sarah's birthday, as we said suppertime Grace, she remarked, "I'm going to say the blessing in my mind. I don't want to say it out loud. I'm not so into this God thing. Is that okay? Can I thank the Great Puppy for this food?" Knowing she was testing a bit, I told her she could do so and to remember that God would still be "into" her and love her no matter what "name" she wanted to give the Spirit who blesses us. Since then and especially since the Birthday Rainbow, she has begun to take two books with her everywhere in the house and looks at the pictures often. They are titled "God Made The World" and "God Made Us."

Kids. So many Joys, Loves, Blessings. So many challenges to this human mother. :o)

Our next blog entry will feature a paper art object fashioned by autistic son, Benjamin. He ripped the piece, with his fingers, out of a map of the United States sometime on the day of August 15, 2004. He pointed it out to me again last week and it seems to correlate to current World events. Specifically, to the events in Israel and the movement of the Earth under the Sinai/Red Sea that is causing the Red Sea to once again, part.
