Nations Population to Hit 300 Million

WASHINGTON - The nation's population is scheduled to officially hit 300 million at 7:46 a.m. (EDT) Tuesday, when the Census Bureau's population clock rolls over to the big number.
But don't expect wild celebrations, fireworks or any other government-sponsored hoopla to mark the milestone. Why bother? Many experts think the population actually hit 300 million months ago.
It's not easy estimating the exact number of people in a country the size of the United States. It gets even more complicated when you take into account illegal immigration, another reason for the federal government to let the milestone pass quietly.
(Dumb quote of the article award:)
This year, there's a good chance the 300 millionth American has already walked across the border from Mexico.
(Least well thought out quote from a "Think Tank" um, thinker:)
The 300 millionth American _ born months ago or on Tuesday _ is probably Hispanic because they are the fastest growing demographic group in the U.S., Frey said.
(William Frey, Demographer, Brookings Institution - "Think Tank")
Jeffrey Passel, a senior demographer at the Pew Hispanic Center, said the Census Bureau has improved its population estimates in the past few years, but it still undercounts illegal immigrants.
There are an estimated 11 million to 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. Experts differ on the specifics, but many estimate that more than 1 million of them don't show up in census figures.
Census Bureau employees planned to mark the moment Tuesday afternoon with cake and punch.
Well, somebody's celebrating. Without population growth, I suppose the Census Bureau folk would be jobless. So to speak. They more than likely know the score, hm? This article was a bit inflammatory, you think? I suppose without the current immigrant status, the bureaucrats who complain about the purported influx would have to seriously consider who's washing their forks and plates as they ponder the chicken kiev at their next Chez Oo La-La, up my coffer, $250/plate fundraiser. Oui?
What percentage of this 300 million do you suppose are hungry, homeless, and in despair?
U.S. POPClock Projection
According to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, the resident population of the United States, projected to 10/17/06 at 11:46 GMT (EDT+4) is300,000,000
COMPONENT SETTINGS FOR OCTOBER 2006
One birth every.................................. 7 seconds
One death every.................................. 13 seconds
One international migrant (net) every............ 31 seconds
Net gain of one person every..................... 11 seconds
300,000,000 (see the population "clock" counter turn in BIG, BOLD, RED letters ... red.)
Why is it called a Population Clock? Aren't we counting people and not time? Or maybe clocking the people? Maybe time is people. If time is money, would that mean that money is people?
Do you hear the cracking of mass whips? :o)
Watch the population wheel groan here:
Population Clock

I'm just sittin' here watchin' the wheels go 'round and 'round,
I really love to watch 'em roll.
