Bird dog steps on gun, kills hunter
Wed Jan 9, 2008 9:10am
HOUSTON (Reuters) - A Houston-area man was killed in a hunting accident after his dog stepped on a loaded shotgun in the back of a pick-up truck, triggering a blast that pierced the vehicle and the hunter's leg, a local sheriff said.
Perry Price, a 46-year-old math teacher, shot a goose on Saturday then put his gun in the back of the truck where the dog was waiting to retrieve the bird.
"I've been in law enforcement 20 years and this is probably the strangest one I've had," said Chambers County Sheriff Joe LaRive.
The Evidence:
Investigators found paw prints and mud from the dog, a chocolate Labrador retriever named Arthur, on the shotgun, LaRive said.
Price was taken to a local hospital, but died from a loss of blood after doctors were unable to revive him.

I wonder what odds math "Professor" Perry would have given on his unexpected death being masterminded by his dog. Perhaps a little bird whispered in Arthur's ear .....

Funny...I just heard this story on the Howard Stern Show this morning. Maybe he's reading your blog Tink! LOL! Anyway, to me the worst part of the story is that this poor dog might not have a master anymore. Hope he is well cared for. As for the moron with the gun...later ya dope!
Heheheh!!! As my mother says, "what goes around, comes around." or "every dog has their day".
I just wonder if they'll give the dog the death penalty, being it Texas and all.
XO

Tink, your post made me think of Heinrich Hoffmann's "Struwwelpeter" ("Shock-Headed Peter") stories.
Most notably the story of the hare who turns on the hunter
You must see this book if you've never heard of it. It scared me as a kid.
Also, your picture brought to mind THIS.
.... what's good for the goose is also good for the stork. :-)
Off topic but you'll be glad to know Howard Stern gave "Dr." Phil and Ofrah a good bashing last night on Letterman's show. Sorry if you missed it...It was a thing of beauty.
lol Rob Between this story and the Oprah/Pill thing ... I'm guessing it's more likely that old Howard is reading *your* blog! A long time ago, I thought Dr. Pill might be onto something, but soon realized he was just onto himself. heh. I know, hope that Arthur the Dog isn't further traumatized by the stupidity of people.
Yep, Zoe you know it. It's weird, because I had the same thought about that poor dog. Since many people think dogs are stupid anyway, there's little question that hardly anyone in Texas would think there was any intent on the dog's part. :o)
Lucy Isn't it weird? The things that scare us as kids. I could totally understand this one. Those little mind prods we get that tell us .. hm. could that happen? Could animals really have feelings, thoughts, intent? If you've spent a lot of time around cats, there is no question. lol I loved the Cat Stevens cover. One of my very favorites. Shock-headed Peter. TThat's hilarious!
gotta watch out for those Bird Dogs, they are very smart ya know!! Maybe it wasn't an accident?? :)
"googleganger" -- I love it. Found that on my blog today too.
ROFLMAO!
Maybe so Grace it was an interesting lesson either way ... I saw that your avatar is working at Rachel's. Gorgeous as always! ;o)
lol Lucy that is one of the funnier ones they've done. Googleganger. Just the word alone is funny. When you add the definition, it's hilarious!
I've just *got* to find some time to do an updated blog post. Hope tomorrow!
xo
You're very sweet Tink.
The computer thing throws me for a loop all the time, just when I think I have it figured out, bam! Not!!
Have a good weekend.
