I read about something being done on New Year's Eve by a number "churches" and/or individuals around the World. It's called the "Burning Bowl" Ceremony. It seemed rather Druidic to me, but it's apparently being done by Christian as well as non-Christian denominations. Strange that. Seems such a Pagan ritual, but in a strictly psychological sense, it's often very effective. The Bible does remind us that the Father knows all that we need, but He also reminds us to ASK. I believe He wouldn't mind us doing something that can cause no harm, and would be helpful in many ways. So long, as we do this in that state of mind and spirit. Ithink it's a good psychological tool to help rid oneself of burden, stress, undesirable habits, fears, anxieties, etc. This is what you do:
You write down on paper things, feelings, ways of being that you would like to be rid of in the coming year. Maybe a fear of success, or a fear of failure. Maybe you would like to be less judgmental, less materialistic, more loving, less cranky, or lose a bad habit. Whatever it may be. Write it down. Put the paper in a fireproof bowl, light it on fire, then give it up to God, the Universe, whomever. Give thanks. Move on.
Tomorrow (or today ... depending upon where you live!) I'm recommitting my psyche to being free of smoking forever. I have slipped again and again this past year. It's time to get serious now. I'll be using the Commit lozenges to assist this time. Even though I smoked very little and not around the children, even the few a day I would have are too many. Wish me luck! Next, I'm removing my fear of winning the lottery and owning a house. :o) So, go ahead .... put your requests for removals in my cyber-bowl if you'd like. On New Year's Day, I'll "burn" the petitions, and we'll all move on!
Happy New Year and many blessings to come!

Happy New Year Paul, Sues, Zoe !!
Okay, well ... I did the bowl burning. Thank you for the well wishes. We'll just have to see how it all shakes out this year! lol
Did you feel any ash sprinkles out there? :o)
Tink, I wish you luck in the smoking thing.
I do wish you a happy peaceful a whatever makes you happy, New Year.
You have dogs? who, what, where?
I wish you to not stop coming by my blog. Put that in the bowl.
Geez, this gives the term "smokin' a bowl" a whole new meaning. LOL!
I'd like to drop 20 lbs. myself...good call suesjoy!
I guess I am to late here to participate. You probably already lit the fire huh?
Aww Grace not a chance - you don't need to put that wish in the wish bowl! :o) Right now, no ... we have zero pets, except some ants in the back room. lol Can't have them here and it's very hard. But, we will survive and move on as soon as we can.
Rob lol ... yeah ... when I first started reading about this burn bowl, I wondered ....
Okay, I made a special burning bowl list for you. *poof* .. goodbye 20 pounds!
And on we go!
xo
I'm gonna lose 20 pounds without a Druidic pagan burning bowl LOL. It's called NYSC,
Anyway I hope the non-smoking thing goes well also
I have never smoked and always hated the stuff so it is hard for me to imagine being hooked, on anything, not my personality slash genes I guess...

Pray about it, girl A LOT!

Hiya Tink!
How's your weekend going?
just dropping by...
Wait, WAIT! Got another bowl, Tink? I'm late to the party again.
I wish you the best in quitting smoking too (my sis smokes too, so I know how hard it is, and how much one can wish for a loved one to quit). And I TOO belive you can do it this year. Just remember, it DOES take several tries to quit.
As for me -- I wish to become less disorganized (tho' not completely organized -- hell I don't wanna be a bore), to start exercising again and to keep a better house. And to pare back on my internet addiction a bit (about a half hour's worth) (;-)) I also FINALLY want to finish my writing-for-children course. Just a little ways to go...
Do you mind lighting up the bowl once more, Tink?
Hi Tink, I know it's late but Happy New Year to you!
I love the idea of the burning bowl - in a strictly symbolic sense. I can't think of things I want to lose right now though; it's more about things I'd like to gain....more time to write being one, and the necessary dedication to join a gym, and learn to speak Dutch better!!
Good luck with quitting smoking. It's tough, I know all too well, but I managed it getting on three years ago after Koos had a heart attack and had to give up for his survival. That was a good incentive, but I still miss it ;-(
Tink, How did you figure out to post a profile pic on Rachel's new forum? I am completely stumped.
Any help is appreciated, got to figure out this computer stuff!!!
Can you come over and show me?
That's true enough, Lin! You'll do it - I know you will. ;o) Yeah, you'd think it would be a piece of cake to give up the last measly 4 or less I smoke in a day. Sometimes not enough that. I'll do it this month with - yes! lots prayer. You'll do it, too, because I think you're the type of person who will stick with something once your mind is made up.
Aw .. sure Lucy! I'll bet if you stick with the one thing ... "keeping" a better house, the other stuff will fall in line. Glad you had a nice visit with your sister. It's good to get away every once in a while - for perspective :o) If I write something aimed at children, I always read it to my own - if they like it and it keeps they're interest, then we've got a winner. So far, I stink at it. Unless the writing is extremely silly. lol
Hiya Grace! The weekend was a bit busy with work, but we managed some time for movies and play. I wish I could come over and show you how to do the picture. lol From what I remember, there is an option under profile. Click in the little circle that you have your "own" file/picture. Then, at the end of the long box, click on the "browse" bar. From there, find the photo on your own computer you want to add. Click okay on your popup. And you should have the "URL" from your own computer in that long box. Save your profile and it should save your picture. You'll have to do a test post to see if it worked okay. If that doesn't do it, I'll go back to the site and e-mail you with better instructions!
Aw .. Happy New Year Vally! I noted you're back from S.A. and starting back to work soon. I read once that in order to make "gains" ... you have to "lose" something. Hm. ;o)
That is wonderful that you and Koos quit together. I understand the heart thing. I had an M.I. in April, so you'd think that would be extra incentive/motivation to completely give up the darn things altogether. This will be my 3rd try to lose the remaining few. The lozenges taste horrible, but they work. Now, I'm working on finding things to do instead of the "ritual" of smoking. Toothpicks, little straws, squishy ball to keep hands busy. :o) I might even go back to needlepoint which I haven't done in at least 15 years.
Val I think, too, that you will make those changes. If you were able to stop smoking, you can do about anything you set out to do!
Well, here's to meeting goals and setting expectations for ourselves that we can manage!
xo Tink
the queen of the Oneder Bowl always gets a replay
lol Ray Gotta work on the standing like a statue and playing by intuition. Then maybe we can beat their best. We can really play a mean Oneder bowl. har-har.
p.s. everyone ... erm ... ignore that man behind the curtain!
Tink (er, all powerful Oz), I love your "About Me." It's great!
