Do you see Jesus on my head?

lol ... just a little e-bay cornflake joke. Seriously, yesterday was the Big Event. My nephew Mikey met and then surpassed the $500 challenge to raise funds for St. Baldrick's Organization (serving children battling cancer). St. Baldrick's challenges people to raise funds for the kids by participating in "Shave-A-Thons" wherein you can participate as a shavee, shaver, or other helper. Mikey has raised over $700 and now is #1 on his dad's police department team. I told Mikey if he met the $500 challenge, I would join him for a head shave. Because his team is in a local school, the event cannot be opened to the "general public." So, I was invited to go bare with another team. I did. That event was last evening. Here are the photos:

(WITH THE KIDS AFTERWARD. ORION COULDN'T WATCH IT HAPPEN, BUT AFTER .. HE *LOVED* MY HAIR. SO FUNNY)

St. Baldrick's takes on the St. Patrick's Day theme. We did it up with green shirts (under our St. Baldrick's shirts) Green flashing shamrock earrings and other touches of green. I loved how the kids got really into it. Sarah and I had bright green nail polish and eye shadow. I drew the line at green lipstick though.

The kids had a great time listening to Celtic music, bagpipes, and watching Irish dancers. Our video is too dark as the event was a low-light affair (thank God) lol Ben had a grand time, flapping his blue vinyl flapper and spinning circles to the music. He didn't want to leave. This is amazing, because 2 years ago .. you could hardly get him inside such a large, noisy event. Sarah was Junior Miss, helping to serve Pepsi and pizza to the the participants. Orion mostly sat and took video clips of odd things such as the corner of people's ears, shiny water droplets on a table, things that reminded him of Pokemon. It was a good evening. We raised $200 on my head and in honor of a 7-year-old classmate of Orion and Sarah who is battling brain cancer (as well as my Dad and brother who both passed on due to cancer.) So, it was a wonderful family experience. I highly recommend it. I can look in the mirror and know my hair will grow back in a few short months. Kids undergoing chemotherapy not only wonder if their hair will ever grow back, they wonder if they will live until next week. This was a peanut drop in the bucket comparatively. Our team raised $38,000 for the kids. AWESOME!

Your team raised $38,000.!! That is incredible and amazing. Have to say I have some tears in my eyes. It's just magnificent.
And look at you, you are inspiring. How did it feel? I like the one with all of your hair still there on the other side of your head, that's a cool photo.
I look forward to all the different styles you can play with while your hair grows. :)

you rock Tink!! xo

Aw thanks Grace :o) I did shed a brief tear but it was mostly thinking of the kids. There were quite a few kids there who are undergoing chemo. My heart felt like it was going to break watching them have some fun. Yep, it's closer to $40,000 now because some others turned in more $. Very cool! Everyone rubbed my head for good luck, so I hope it works. lol It feels soft but stubby. Interesting. It was windy/rainy outside when we left. BOY did that feel different! lol That was a cool shot, wasn't it? It was like the hair was alive and waving bye-bye. lol

Great summary of the evening, Tink. Love the pic of you and your kids together. So beautiful.. so cute.

(but why stop at the green lipstick? JK! ;) You did far more than I think I could ever do.)

You DO rock. And that sum is amazing!!! (But imagine if it had turned out to be $47,000. Maybe it still will??) (do you remember what I'm talking about?)

Have a great week, Tink. And wear a hat. (just think, you could even have some fun with wigs if you wanted to! Bet Sarah would like that. Maybe even Orion and Ben?) (And just think how split-end free your hair will be for a while. Nice 'n' fresh, like starting over.... (John Lennon... ))

You're an inspiration. :)

p.s. Grace - sorry, I have to ask you here -- but have you closed your blog? :(

It even went up since I posted this afternoon, that is really great.
I bet when you went out into the cool air, it felt like you didn't have your 'hat' on!
It's so tough to see kids going through chemo. How neat thought to see them having fun! :)

Lucy ~ no I didn't, guess I should check the settings?

Thanks Lucy ... sorry haven't been back in a while. FB keeps me busy enough! Yes, I definitely needed a hat for those cool days! It was 74degrees today, so I bared it all in public. Lots of interesting stares. lol It's all of about 3 millimeters now.

Yes ray .. Rockaria, indeed! lol ELO .. You made me get out my German translator. lol (He was not happy to be plucked from his wiener schnitzel and spaetzle in the Internet.) :o)

Oh Jesus, Tom! Perish that thought. Take care out there in the wilds of SB. Kids are good.
