Mermaid Sightings Claimed in Israel
livescience.com – 2 hrs 29 mins ago

Locals and tourists in the Israeli town of Kiryat Yam have been flocking to the coast in hopes of glimpsing a creature that most people believe only exist in fairy tales.

An alleged mermaid, said to resemble a cross between a fish and a young girl, only appears at sunset. It performs a few tricks for onlookers before disappearing for the night.

One of the first people to see the mermaid, Shlomo Cohen, said, "I was with friends when suddenly we saw a woman laying on the sand in a weird way. At first I thought she was just another sunbather, but when we approached she jumped into the water and disappeared. We were all in shock because we saw she had a tail." The sightings apparently began several months ago.
$1 million reward:

The town's tourism board is of course delighted with their newfound fame and local mystery fauna. Taking a cue from the town of Inverness, Scotland (on the shore of Loch Ness), the Kiryat Yam government has offered a $1 million reward for the first person to photograph the creature. Town spokesman Natti Zilberman thinks the reward money is well-spent. "I believe if there really is a mermaid then so many people will come to Kiryat Yam, a lot more money will be made than $1 million."

Myth or Reality. Some say there are no myths. Some say there is no reality. Some ask "What if all the myths were real?" I just wonder about the name of the first "eyewitness." Shlomo. Shlomo Cohen of Kiryat Yam. Could this be the Israeli version of P.T. Barnum and his "Figi Mermaid?" I Yam what I Yam. :o) Shlomo. I did not know that was an actual name. I always thought it was a Yiddish word that was not so kind. Whaddo I know?

When I was a little girl, I really and truly believed in mermaids. Not just mermaids, but mermen and mer children, merpeople! They all lived under the sea in a wonderful, glorious paradise and one day, if I just could get to the ocean ... they would surely recognize a kindred spirit here and invite me to join them! I still believe that all things imaginable are possible. Probabilities aside, possibilities are intriguing. And present hope.
I found that photo above on some website. It was a trick photo. So it's not really real. But, didn't it fascinate you for a moment or two?
Mermaid legends/sightings/stories go back at least to 1000 b.c. (if you believe Wiki.) So, who's to say what is real and what isn't. If you were a mermaid or merman, looked around, and got a whiff of humans ... you'd probably be real shy about getting seen too. We're a strange bunch. And as we all know ... lots of us aren't very open-minded to such things. Poor dears would probably get a tail-full of buckshot for their curiosity.
It's like some people out here who "adore" nature and the wildlife that comes with it. They feed the racoons [stupids!] and leave salt blocks out for the deer. They think the little mice and bunnies are SoOooO so cute! And leave birdseed on the ground for them. But, God help 'em if they get in the gardens or the trashcans or God forbid the ... cellar! Well, what do they expect when they're feeding 'em, for chrissake??? Then, they go out to set traps and worse. It's dissonance that I was never able to wrap my mind completely around.
Anyway, I digress. Moral of the Weird Wagon story today:
Don't Feed The Mermaids.
:o)

The rule is - don't feed any animal that is wild, it takes them from their nature feeding routine.
I still believe that all things imaginable are possible. Probabilities aside, possibilities are intriguing. And present hope. Again - I like this statement Tink. There must be some perfect, paradise world somewhere? Why not? Have you seen what dreams may come? Tough movie, but I love the end. so what I hope it is, that we all meet and life is just what we want it to be.
Thank you for you care package ideas, I have been thinking of what to send. I am just a bit torn up inside and I can't talk about it without tearing up. forgive me. Thanks for being a good friend. xox

Aw Grace No need to apologize for being a warm and loving, caring friend to MaryEllen. You know, it has been 10 months since my brother died, and I still tear up. Saw your note about the things you've already done and are doing .. I know she'll appreciate 'em so much.

I can't claim to know why things happen to people, why there is strife and war and illness; but, I do know that there is hope and there are rainbows and there is laughter to help us over the rough spots.

Here's to mermaids, possibilities, and thankfulness that there are many people who care about others in their darkest of times. Thank God for 'em!

Mermaids? LochNess Monsters? Sasquach? Atlantis? What is real and what is a figment of our imagination. When I was little I used to think there were tiny little elf-like people living in the family piano called Minihoonies. Where would life be without our imagination. I digress a little from what you posted Tink, but I thank you for bringing back some of these memories and thoughts.

Shlomo Cohen? LOL! Sounds like a joke name that Howard Stern might use when goofing on some (as he would say) "super-jew". As for the mermaid sighting, I don't think so. It would be very cool though were it true:)
I guess only time will tell for sure.

I live with a lovely little red-headed mermaid...
She has feet and is working on beating her best time in the pool.
In the lake, she is as silky as an otter.
Name's Jenny...

And yes, if we can imagine anything, it must exist somewhere!
