Pearly Queen of Gems,
Romans trod on hems;
Encrusted with your glow,
sewn and gilded, his words a blow;
Gritty barbs in spite festooned,
healing nacre binds her wound;
Bitten tongue or bleeding hand,
wisdom tempered through grains of sand;
Vitellius victorious a fate unfurled,
time in fashion spun and pearled.
