Oh the times we wish for a handy portable camera.
Annie received a most remarkable sky gift yesterday afternoon. It was a busy morning of errands and introducing youngest son to a new speech therapist. She was as enthralled with his sunshine/rainbow countenance as he was with her. We had a full morning at the therapy center, teaching the teachers a few things about the outwardly unusual appearances of an autistic child with a low functioning body and a high functioning brain. A bright, intelligent, whole body communicator - Ben had quite a bit to teach. Ben has been showing signs of moving into a different level of and desire for reaching outward with his communication and special soul touches. There is just something about Ben that touches people in the heart and soul. They encounter him and are changed in often undefinable ways. He may touch someone's hand in a store and they look at him, often with tears in their eyes, and don't want him to let go. It's a bit unusual. Sometimes he will want to pull up and sit on someone's lap. I cannot define the process and barely understand it. No one has ever asked for Ben to stop or said "Hey Lady! Get the kid off my hand!" lol They seem to accept his touch - his presence in those moments - in a very spiritual frame of view.
At the therapy center, Ben halted the work he was doing while being assessed by the speech pathologist. He went to the closed door of her office, opened it, and waited with a small vocal squeak of anticipation as we heard the wheels of a Cerebral Palsy walker creak closer. A little girl appeared, tiny as a wisp, valiantly pushing the walker inch-by-inch with legs that twisted atop each other. She progressed at agonizingly slow pace, with the encouragement of a therapy assistant leading the way. As the little girl and Ben looked at each other - they made a mutual squeak vocal. I noticed a white horse decal on the wheel hub of the walker and told her it looked as if she was riding her Pegasus Chariot. There was a hushed moment, the therapist said "oh yeah! never thought of it that way."
The moment ended and the girl moved down the hallway, her Pegasus Chariot squeaking in unison with the creaky wheels of the therapist's portable chair. I don't know exactly what passed between Ben and the girl. Maybe just a silent moment of mutual encouragement. Maybe something more. For a slight moment it felt as if a time warp occurred - a momentary stop to the swirling motion of time. And then that moment just passed. Some feel it, some don't. And it's done. I found out today, the type of walker she was using is called a "saddle walker." I had no idea at the time.
So, the day progressed. Driving Westbound on Nash Road in New Bedford, MA, the long line of traffic came to a slow crawl and eventually stopped, waiting for a light at Mt. Pleasant Street. I took a swig of my favorite vanilla coffee. Swinging head & neck back to get the flow moving from the "to go cup," I noticed that remarkable Sky gift to the West.
The temperature outside was around 30 degrees. No rain, no snow. I saw two cone-shaped clouds - very white and very close. Not distant like a rolling bank of thunderheads or anvil clouds. Right smack dab close enough to touch. These clouds were almost squared off in appearance, looking more like upside down pyramids. Side-by-side, about 20 feet apart. They were not protruding from *anything* - just standing there in the sky. Flanking this duo was a rainbow. Yep. All there in the West. The rainbow ends went as typical - one end as North anchor and one end as a South Anchor. I've seen many clouds and cloud formations, both typical and atypical. Never, ever anything like this. Oh for a camera at hand's reach. It was a beautiful confirmation to me of the beautiful souls who come to us in physically unusual packages. Kids like Ben. And like the Pegasus Charioteer.
There was a big man in a big pick-up truck in front of my vehicle. I think he was looking up too. So, if anyone from the S.E. Coastal Massachusetts area is reading and saw this formation ... please drop me a note! I was too enthralled with the delicious warmth of that skyward view to note the make of the truck. However, I did note the center letters on the license plate: X E O
Hm.
Addendum 07 Jan 2006:
So far, no one has come forward with information on the cloud/rainbow formation. But, it's okay ... we know what we saw and how it made us feel. And that may be all there is to know!
It has come to our attention that a most beautiful post was made to son Ben regarding his "Big Day" at Therapy Central. It's lovely and you can read it here:
