Carnival of The Carnivals

Have you noticed these "Carnival of [fill in the blank]" blogs that feature everything from recipes to vampire lore to toenails? Perusing the 'only limited by time available' selections, Annie soon began to feel as if she had been transported to a *real time* carnival. They're interesting and fun for a limited time. Then, dizzy and disoriented sets in. It gets to be *too much* of a sensory blast. The lights, the oddities of human kind, the sounds, the smells [lots of throw up puddles to sidestep around the 'ole Round Up][ heh.] Annie must admit that she has a strange fascination for the weird and sundry oddities in life. Those sideshows, especially with the 'human' oddities, are supposed to be a "side" attraction; but, we think that those 'ole P.T. Barnum folk understand human nature very well. The reasons that some of us are fascinated with the weird, unusual, odd are as variable as the oddities we gape jaw about. Maybe it's all just a way to think "Wow! there's something/someone stranger than me!" or "Look! This personal problem just ain't so bad considering that one!" or "Thank God! There's someone more perverse than me!" And maybe it's just this: We all construct this tight reality box of illusion around our lives and what is *real* and sometimes, it's important to loosen the seams a bit to peer beyond that construct. Maybe seeing the weird, freaky, sideshow-ish stuff is the way we can allow other realities to filter through without feeling so ... well, psycho. And maybe we've become a nation of voyeurs because we have really so far distanced ourselves from experiencing life and understanding its diversity by living it. Who knows.

While searching for a couple images of weird carnival things, we happened upon an image of a Joshua Tree, titled "Carnival." Along with that image, there was a web page called "Magic Trees" by one Randy Wang. Now, tell me that you wouldn't at least *consider* a name change in this case .... :o) When Annie was a wee child, she used to "imagine" fairy and elf carnivals held within trees, woods, forests. Yah, we did! lol Here's a very small sample of text reflected at the"Magic Trees" page:

Finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks,
Sermons in stones, and good in everything.

"Carnival" - Joshua Tree.

You know, if you look real close and use a little alternate vision ... there really *is* a carnival occurring within that tree. :o)

So, now that you know one of Annie's deepest, weirdest fascinations .... how about joining her for a cup of Mojo Tea and continue peeking beyond the box seams? It's a bumpier ride. Much bumpier and more sensory altering than, say .... the Salt N' Pepper Shaker Spinner or the Mad Mouse at Playland! But, we can hold hands and SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAMMMMMMM together.

Come on, don't be afraid. Open your eyes, look deep inside, a magical mystery awaits!

Maybe that's it. The "American Sideshow." Is it possible, that America and Americans have *become* a living carnival? We are the sideshow ... we've become that freak show and the rest of the World gapes slack-jawed at us in "Wonder" at the utter gall of "Us." Hope not. But fear so. And we search out the literal freaks and oddities, hoping that we don't spy ourselves in the view? Well, we're all in here. Wakin' up time.

Now, who wants to ride the Big Coaster?!!!! yee-hawwwwwwwwww
