Kids Draw The Darnedest Things

Black-Uh-Sun by Sarah, Age 6.11

For those who've followed Annie's blog for a time, you'll remember that daughter "don't tell *me* how to match" Sarah is an "impressionist" artist. She's our intuitive creationist. Early this morning, up with the sun and birds, Sarah went to work with her watercolors and graph paper. Yes. She often prefers to paint on graph paper. Annie doesn't know why. Neither does Sarah.

Today, she painted "black-uh-sun." Yes. That's exactly how she says it. Same as she says "back-uh-yard." Not back yard. Not black sun. "Back-uh-yard" and "black-uh-sun." It tells me that she "hears" or is impressed with those words as not being two separate words. But, rather, as one. Backyard and blacksun. It's very-uh-cute to hear. :o)

Sarah doesn't know *why* she painted this today. It was "just there" waiting to be expressed. But, she assures us that it's something that's going to happen. Okay. Maybe she is reflecting something as simple as an eclipse. Maybe she's reflecting psycho-emotive-social changes in the collective of people. Maybe she's reflecting nuclear annihilation. erp. When we blew up the image, we found a little teeny tiny man inside. And maybe Sarah is simply reflecting clouds passing over the Sun. Who knows. She doesn't. Neither does Annie. But, it was important for her to pass along on this Sunday May 7, 2006. So we did. Forever and ever, amen.

There's a little black spot on the sun today,
that's my soul up there.
It's the same old thing as yesterday,
that's my soul up there.
There's a black hat caught in a high tree top,
that's my soul up there.
There's a flag pole rag and the wind won't stop,
that's my soul up there.
