Thank you to the lovely Grace, who tagged me for this 8 factoid blog game. It goes like this: You get tagged and write 8 facts about yourself. Here are the rules:
1) Post rules before you give your facts. 2) List 8 random facts about yourself. 3) At the end of your post, choose (tag) 8 people and list their names, linking to them. 4) Leave a comment on their blog, letting them know they've been tagged. Then the facts:
1) Unless you read the "Who Are You?" post, you'll probably not know that when I was a child (around age 7) I ate an ant. It was very gritty. I cannot remember why I did it. I was alone and not egged on by peer pressure. Once the grittiness, hypersalivating, and nausea passed, I knew I must have another. And another. I couldn't stop. I obtained a false passport, but had no money, so I stowed away in an airliner wheel well, making my way to the Amazon Rainforest, in search of more ants. Bigger ants. Better ants. More active ants. Colorful ants. I couldn't stop. And I still can't. I ... I ... I'm so ashamed. :::::sobs:::: (just kidding.) okay. hardee-har-har.
(I really did eat an ant.) It was not tasty. I used to get regularly bitten by dastardly fire ants, living in Florida. I think it was Revenge of the Ants.
2) While not achieving the status of Herb Alpert, I was a good trumpet player and earned a first place trumpet duet award and medal, in the Chicago Schools Music Competition, at the tender age of 10. My partner was Billy Welser who was 100 times better than me. He was first chair in the band, I was second. There were only 2 of us. We played Stars and Stripes Forever
for that competition. I missed a note, but we still won - beating out 10 teams. At the age of 16, I stupidly gave it up for a more pertinent interest. Boys. I can't blow a note now. I was a choir/background singer in church, on & off, until around 1994. Now, I just do lullabies. :o)
3) I was in a real tornado. Age 11. It leveled a good portion of our hometown. The above-mentioned Billy Welser's dad died from injuries sustained in that storm.
4) My parents nicknamed me "Miss Sass."
5) My favorite place in the world is New Mexico. I would like to live there. Soon. And forever. I've lived in Illinois, Florida, Arizona, California, and Massachusetts.
6) I was a Registered Nurse for 12 years, retiring when my first son was born 2 months early and required intensive home care. I work from home now, typing my fingers to the bone, doing medical transcription for the Radiology specialties. You should hear the clicking the bones make on the keyboard. I have a tendency to overdramatize in writing. You could tell, couldn't you. Did you notice that I sometimes sneak in more factoids than required or desired? :o) (having so many "I's" and "me's" in these facts bothers me.)
7) I have been married twice. Now you know why. ha-ha.
8) I was an "extra" in the movies Backdraft and Curly Sue, scenes shot in Chicago. I use "movie." Not film. Because .. well, is a film a DVD? No. It's digital. But, it's still a moving picture story. So, dammit, it's a movie!
9) I like to bend the "rules" when possible. Not real, honest to God, serious law rules. But, rather, silly rules .... of grammar, of political correctness, making those with the problem of being Overly Serious at all times become very annoyed with me. I can be just as serious as a heart attack when necessary and appropriate. But, I just have to let loose on occasion. For instance, I like squeaky farts. Hearing them and making them.
Okay, are you now convinced that I am really and truly "weird?" :o)
Enough about me. How about YOU????
Let's see now. Who to tag that has not been tagged? Hm.

Eesh, what possessed you to eat an ant. I can't even look at them, so creepy crawly.! I am impressed with your ability to play trumpet, I tried once when I was a kid, very difficult to do. So if I watch Backdraft and Curly Sue again, I might see you?
Those are great 8's, and you went for 9! Love the way you write.
Hi Tink
My older daughter ate an ant just to say she did. I think she was about 7 years old.
My brother played trumpet in school.
I've never been in a meteorlogical tornado, but I have 3 kids...
I hope you get the change to live in the mountains of your dreams!
As far as a career, I'm in accounting (yawn), but it's something I can take anyway anyhow anywhere...
Never been married - might be a good thing.
I'll look for you next time I rent those movies! Wow
Like you, I like number 9. ;)
change = chance
duh...
Hi You!!!
One way or the other you're going to get me onto my blog ~ Been meaning to .... just haven't been able to find the time (no excuses Janice!)As you can tell ~ I just went by today and noticed I'd been "Tagged" ~ ~ what fun! I will try to post soon :)
I couldn't help but notice on your "tagged" that you were in the movie "Backdraft". My daughter was in the movie. In fact...her name is in the credits and as a result she is a memeber of the Screen Actor's Guild. She was in a movie with Roger (of Who fame) too.
What a small world!
Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts ~ will do my best to update my blog!
Hi to everyone ~ I miss you all!
Hi Tink,
how nice of you to (still) visit my blog! It's hard- ai'nt it - without the puppermaster PT around! Anyways: I do hope sincerely that you are doing fine with your boys. Hang on in there and some day I'll drop by to sing a song especially for you, you SWELL MUM!!! And uhm... I love a good fart every now and then! So here's a OOOOOH! and a HUMPPPH! TO YOU!

Tink,
Loved your 8s. Cool about the trumpeting! And I love New Mexico too -- was in Albuquerque once (took a short balloon ride while there). Also Carlsbad Caverns!
Neat about the movies! Seriously, can we SEE you in them? Do tell!
I still haven't posted my 8s yet but have thought about what I WILL post. But by the time I do, there'll be no one left to tag...
- Lucy.
Hello dear hearts!
Forgive me for not addressing each of you specifically ... I'm so pooped. Developed a head cold tonight and feel blechy.
Hope everyone is well tonight/today.
It was a bit of a somber start to the day, thinking about 9/11 six years ago. But, found a number of things to smile about as the day progressed.
Wow! I keep getting the "eeries" by the similarities so many of us share. Sometimes I feel as if some of you have jumped inside my psyche! whee-ha!
No, you won't get to see me in those movies. I think you can see my elbow in a street scene outside the bar in Backdraft. And not at all in Curly Sue (that I could pick out, anyway!) Billy Baldwin bummed a cigarette from me (Marlboro Red) on the set of Backdraft (remember Billy? If you're out there! During the Michigan Avenue boring care shots.) And I did get to sit across from Ron Howard at dinner break. He has a very penetrating gaze, but warm and kind. There were more fireman and policeman extras on that set than I can remember ever seeing in my life!
I got to touch Jim Belushi's forehead on a break from Curly Sue shooting. I as an RN at the time. I saw him standing in a doorway with a small group of people and noticed a huge welt on his forehead. Black & blue and nasty. I went for a closer look at told him he really should get it looked at. (There had been a number of stunts done that evening - and he had done some of his own stuff.) Well, I reached up to touch the area around the wound and discovered it was MAKE UP! lol I complimented the artist and they all had a great laugh. :o)
Grace, I can't imagine still to this day why I ate that poor ant. Dale, your daughter is a riot! That's a very honest thing. I prolly did it for the same.
Accounting is a fine occupation! That's why I love medical transcription now. It goes with me, wherever I choose to go! Yes! 3 children often = tornado. lol I will hope for a "chance to change" residence. :oD
Janice ... that's very COOL about your daughter. Being an extra ... no screen credit is given (unless you get tagged for a bigger role, speaking part, etc.) I can't wait for you to update on your blog. Do the 8's!!!!
Noces! PT the Puppetmaster?? lol
I will look forward to reading your 8's AND to the song! Thank you for the fart! I heard every squeak! :o)
Lucy, the air and energy are so different out there in NM. I don't know exactly what it is, but there's a palpable difference. I love the diversity in geography within the state and the weather is hard to beat! (Except maybe Hawaii ...) I camped in Rockhound State Park/Deming and have never since seen night skies like that.
The children are doing exceptional in all their transitions. They like school for the most part but miss the flexibility of home school. Things are settling down a bit as they continue to be evaluated for placements in regular education with/supports! IEP meetings coming up, so until then ... we're going with the flow. One is in 1/2 days, the other in full days, and the third in no days yet (evals only.) WHEEEE! It gets a little crazy with sceduling.
Well, time to get to bed before I drop on the keyboard!
HUGE HUGS and XO,
Tink
Hi Tink!
I know what ya mean about this being a bit of a morbid week and all with the whole 9/11 anniversary the other day, but as I always do, I managered to find a Phil Hendrie bit to cheer me up. Check out the 3-3-2003 bit with Dean Wheeler for some laughs. Dean is an ultra bleeding heart who wants a Memorial monument built for the "poor, misguided" hi-jackers of the planes that hit the WTC. After all, they were someone's children too! Needless to say, the callers didn't see things his way.
Thanks Rob! I'll get to listen tonight after work and kiddies are sleeping. Sounds like a Hendrie winner, again! I hope everyone gets to see the birthday cake for your TAZ. Adorable photos on your blog.
It was a near perfect weekend here, except for having to work. But, finished up by noon on Sunday and had some free time for fun with the kids. Sly and the Family Stone should have sung HOT FUN in the AUTUMN time. :o)
Have a terrific week ~*~
Hi Tink!
I remember that tornado. Sad to hear about your friend's dad.
That is cool about being an extra in Backdraft and Curly Sue. I knew a girl whose mom was an extra in The Blue's Brothers during the shopping mall scene. Chicago is such a great movie town too.
Trumpet player? I always wanted to be in the band but never could join. My son played the trumpet in his school band. He was quite good. He is the musical one in the family. Maybe it is his namesake that gave him the talent. I named him after PT.:)
