Er, make that Eye in the Sky! Was thinking of clowns today. haha. Pie in the eye, ya know ... clowns ... eye... pie... :o) So, look what the Hubble scope has brought us this week!:
This Hubble image of planetary nebula Kohoutek 4-55 was taken by the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 on May 4, 2009. The colors represent the makeup of the various emission clouds in the nebula: red represents nitrogen, green represents hydrogen, and blue represents oxygen. K 4-55 is nearly 4,600 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. Credit: NASA/ESA/JPL.
Kohoutek 4-55 the nebula, not to be confused with the Kohoutek Comet?
Always thinking that "Kohoutek" was some type of Native Indian word, I looked it up. It's a Czech word. Hum! It means "cockerel" which I suppose could be rooster/cock, but in the context I read it in, it meant the "cock" or "stopper" or the "hammer"on a firearm. I suppose it could take a loose translation to the Hammer of God rather than the Eye of God, if I let my mind wander ... :o)
According to JPL/Nasa, the nebula is named for Luboš Kohoutek.
The Kohoutek Comet was also named for:
Luboš Kohoutek (b. January 29, 1935), Czech astronomer who discovered it in February, 1973.
Whether eyes in the sky are manifestation of some benevolent form, simple swirling and random reformation of matter, or something else is only fodder for imagination and wondering on my part.

"Eye In The Sky" was a book published in 1957, written by Philip K. Dick.

Plot Summary:
While sightseeing at the Belmont Bevatron, Jack Hamilton, along with seven others, is caught in a lab accident. When he regains consciousness, he is in a fantasy world of Old Testament morality gone awry—a place of instant plagues, immediate damnations, and death to all perceived infidels.
Hamilton figures out how he and his compatriots can escape this world and return to their own, but first they must pass through three other vividly fantastical worlds, each more perilous and hilarious than the one before.
Old Testament morality gone awry!!! Boy howdy ... can we say 2009??? lol
Alan Parsons Project's song Eye In The Sky was released in 1982, on the album also called Eye In The Sky. Here is the cover which features the Eye of Horus:
Don't think sorry's easily said
Don't try turning tables instead
You've taken lots of chances before
But I ain't gonna give anymore
Don't ask me
That's how it goes
'Cause part of me knows what you're thinkin'
Don't say words you're gonna regret
Don't let the fire rush to your head
I've heard the accusation before
And I ain't gonna take any more
Believe me
The sun in your eyes
Made some of the lies worth believing
Chorus:
I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules
Dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don't need to see anymore
To know that
I can read your mind,
(Looking at you)I can read your mind
(Looking at you)I can read your mind
(Looking at you)I can read your mind
Don't leave false illusions behind
Don't cry I ain't changing my mind
So find another fool like before
'Cause I ain't gonna live anymore believing
Some of the lies while all of the signs are deceiving
I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules
Dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don't need to see anymore
To know that
I can read your mind,(Looking at you)
I can read your mind(Looking at you)
I can read your mind(Looking at you)
I can read your mind
I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules
Dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don't need to see anymore
To know thatI can read your mind,(Looking at you)
I can read your mind(Looking at you)
I can read your mind(Looking at you)
I can read your mind

Ahoj,
I remember the Kohoutek comment , I was 9 at the time, lots of talk at the time.
Anyhow Kohout = Cockerel, while Kohoutek will probably be 'little cockerel' and from there to things like a 'stop cock' for the water.
Hammer's usually Kladivo
The space photo and PKDs book cover make me think - SKEYE, like its jus' one big peeper.
Cheers
Hi Tink!
Really cool picture and really cool post. And the song...very cool tune. I always liked it but never knew the song's title.
Hello Anon~ Yep, there's no place like home ... yet to be determined. lol Randomly non-random? :o) I'm always on the lookout for a "breath" of fresh air ... haha.
AF .. thanks for the extra info, makes more sense then. I was reading a French translation etymology chapter, translating the Czech to French to English. Go figure. No wonder we're all mixed up. LOL The eyes have it! :o)
Hey Robalito! Alan Parsons Project had some real funky psychedelic tunes. Hope all is well down Dixie Way. :o)
Oh! I also liked the "something had upset the natural laws of the universe" on P.K. Dick's cover there. Amazing that the novel was written with that cover illustration some 52 years before the Hubble shot!
Speaking of SkEyes! Aferrismoon has a brilliant post that features some extremely perceptive thoughts/commentary regarding autism. I did want to get back there and note the Rainman picture features a large "EYE" on his t-shirt. Red (as in Cincinnati Reds baseball) The one-eyed Jack of Hearts is prominent. On a blow-up of the photo, just over Rainman's right shoulder and beyond the Jack of Hearts is a very faint structure out in the field. It looks like it may be some type of piping, but it's definitely in the shape of an "H"
!
