Spotted a white woodpecker yesterday, pecking away at a tree top stump, and was determined to film-capture it! Well, another one showed up this morning and this was a "Downy" or "Hairy" Woodpecker. It has white feathers edged in black. Only the male has a red cap. The one yesterday was SO white, that I thought it was an albino! However, I think it was just a young one, with less black edging. Anyway, caught a couple shots thru the kitchen window before it spied my motion and startled away into the morning sun.
[see him at the very tippy top of the middle stump?]
Another view:
[hint: he's upside down on the left-sided long branch.]
Here are some red-winged blackbirds filmed through the window, while scrounging for bugs:
Back in 1994, there was a short-lived (7 episodes) ABC series called "Birdland." It starred Brian Dennehy as the chief psychiatrist in a city hospital psych ward. I LOVED this show and was so disappointed it was cancelled. The theme song was a real funky, jumpin' piano instrumental by Ray Charles, called "Rockhouse." I have not been able to find the original version online anywhere!.

Here is Ray Charles' "Rockhouse" done by a very talented young pianist.

Come on, come on .. admit it! You bobbed your head up and down like a bird when you heard this music.
:o)
He is very talented. Ok, bobbed a little! :)
I have never heard of 'birdland'. Have you checked Hulu.com?
xo
lol Grace. Bobbed a little. Speaking of bobbing, I really want a car bobble-head of Pete for the back window. :o)
Yah, I checked hulu. ABC probably re-used the tapes for another show.
Well, happy Friday! I know it's not your actual "Friday" but happy Friday anyway, Grace!
VERY cool vid of the key-tickling kid.
Never heard of the Birdland series either, Tink! You're sure to find it SOMEWHERE one day, though. Let us know when you do!
VERY cool about the white woodpecker capture too! And you know I love red-winged blackbirds. We once found a FROZEN yellow-bellied sapsucker on our back deck. Very sad. Beautiful bird.
Haha VERY funny about the PT bobblehead! Can already picture it. (I want one too)

We have lots of Flickers about here - a member of the woodpecker family.
Their CHIRP can be quite disconcerting!
xx
ooh, a bobble head of Pete! I like that, I wonder if anyone has designed it?
Wow Lucy I just hate when that happens ... finding dead birds. :o( I know what you mean Dale .. Grace and I were remarking on the early morning CHIRP CHIRP CHIRPs that are so insistent .. you just cannot sleep thru them. The 4 am ones! I wonder Grace how PT would feel about a bobble head in his honor? I think he might get a kick out of it!
Grace -- I think he'd get more of a wobble out of it than a kick.
:-DD
And Tink - have you ever heard the song "Birds" by The Eels? I like.. BIRDS.
Love that song.
No Lucy I've not heard that song. I'll look for it though! I think PT would be hilarious as a Bobblehead. I wonder where I can propose that as a Who Gift shop item.
Whobobble Whobobble Whobobble!
