The news reports have been relentless since early this morning. Whether or not we believe that the Earth is a living, breathing, soulful entity - it is certain that She can only take so much stripping, mining, plundering of her resources. At some point, as demonstrated by the massive mountain collapse this morning, she will show the effects. The mountain regions in and around Leyte have been de-forested via logging to the point of this type of event. Buried under tons of mud would have to be a devastating scene to witness, most especially when loved ones are trapped below the torrents of unrelenting wet earth.
No, Annie does not believe that the people of Leyte were intentionally targeted by the collasping, exhausted mountain. We wish healing and comfort to the people and to the Earth. Sometimes events occur to serve as awakening tolls for all. The Mayor of the Region, notably one of the only men quoted in all of the heads of state in these news reports, remarked that the mountain fell without warning during a "Women's Day" celebration. Interestingly, one report noted that the Villagers had actually been away from the area for some reason; but, were compelled to return for this "new" village celebration of "Women's Day." I find this strange and telling. While this is a report that is unsubstantiated, it bears some thought. We are an unbalanced people, an unbalanced earth, unbalanced spirit. Annie believes we have all been warned for 30 or more years of these upheavals. We have not heeded the call.

Swallowed by the earth 33 dead, hundreds missing in Leyte mudslides
In Malacañang, President Macapagal-Arroyo announced a massive rescue and relief effort to be undertaken by her government and the private sector.
"Let us all pray for those who perished and were affected by this tragedy," Ms Arroyo said in a statement. "Help is on the way," she promised survivors. "You will soon be out of harm's way."
By the time rescue work was suspended at nightfall, about 100 had survived, with the number of confirmed dead standing at 33, officials and survivors said.
About 300 pupils and their mothers were at the Guinsaugon Elementary School to commemorate "Women's Day" when the roar from the mountain came. It was not clear how many were buried in the schoolhouse.
The tragedy struck with no warning.
'Mountain fell'
Lim said it was a sunny day when the people of Guinsaugon heard a loud crash and felt the earth shake before water mixed with mud and boulders fell from the mountain.
"It looked like the entire mountain fell on the village," said Mayor Mortera.
