Contraptions

Orion likes to build "contraptions." He has been saving bits of string and wire for a number of years now. I imagine that one day it will be the size of Manhattan at least! He uses this tangled ball [ that he has named "Fritzie" ] to attach to other "contraptions." For instance, this past year he built a tower and egg transmitting device that he says goes out to the Universe. [see above photo (semi-centered) ] ok. :o)

However, we must be careful - he says - because too much energy can cause an egg explosion. alritee. I love his imagination and his complete dedication to his fantastical projects. His imagination comes alive for all of us. He has huge fun building and concocting "things" -- but in his own little boy way -- he is also quite serious and takes great responsibility for his "creations."

Every time he uses the word "contraption," I am reminded of the Wizard of Oz. It's a strange little erkable moment where my mind flashes to this dialogue from the film:

Aunt Em: I saw you tinkering with that contraption, Hickory.
Now, you and Hunk get back to that wagon!

Hickory: All right, Mrs. Gale. But some day they're going to erect a statue to me in this town, and -

Aunt Em: Well, don't start posing for it now. Here, here - can't work on an empty stomach. Have some crullers.

Hard work, hard play, and much love. Sometimes love has to be "tough" and sometimes it just has to be "gentle." Knowing who needs which kind and when is sometimes a little tricky. Anyway, these are the elements of life that surround this little family. The children ask me often when I will have someone in my life who loves me and while I sometimes do feel a longing for a romantic partner, it becomes very complicated with the children. For now, until a 'twain can meet - I tell them the three most important people to me are in my life - and they do love me. Orion, Ben, and Sarah: I love you the mostest.
