Today we discussed what "Passover" means, with the children, according to both Jewish and Christian traditions. We had a mixed bag response but it was mainly horror. Son Ben regularly plays the soundtrack from "The Prince Of Egypt" and enjoys a focused obsession on "Let My People Go." Son Orion and daughter Sarah just can't wrap their sensible nodes around the concepts of strange human-made rituals and sacrificial "celebrations." So, we lighten the mood with a little bit of "Nickelodeon" re-enactment. Yep, even the cartoon moguls get in on the action:
"Tommy" the Rugrat as Moses. We supposes it's a concept designed to aid a child's perspective and does help them put themselves into the scene. Orion, who is often 8 going on 80, had the most interesting response after discussing the "Last Supper" and the Passion of Christ and then viewing the painting below:

Orion said "Hey! They gots a dam hamster on the plate!"
He balls up his fists, shakes them at the sky, stomps his feet and hollers "LET MY HAMSTERS GO!"
lol. Okay ... now Annie does, indeed, have a history of being irreverent but only when pointing out extreme hypocrisy. The solemn feasts, rituals, celebrations of blood sacrifice have an important place in our history as a Culture. But, when the heck are we gonna let this guy off the cross and be responsible for our own sins? So, Orion ... we're with you son! Let the dam hamsters go!
