When I'm blue, my sweet Son always finds the key to my smile. His brother and sister are away for the weekend - their first time away from home - so I was a little off center. He was a little blue boy because he couldn't go.
And then we found out someone we trusted told a lie in a series of lies. And we were both fairly sad. You know how it goes. So, we cried a bit and played a lot. And Ben put on "Sunny Side Of Life" and we danced. He whirled on tippy toes around the room, spinning magical circles in time, we hugged and turned together, and soon we were both smiling. He has a brilliant throaty giggle that can melt icy tombs of most hearts. Not all ... but most.
So, I'm in the kitchen cleaning up after dinner trying to stay on that Sunny Side. In May 2003, I put up the above handprint painting, the "Circle of His Palms." The Ben Sun :o)
It was taped on the kitchen cabinet these entire past two years. As The Sunny Side played, that painting came loose and fluttered onto the counter. It was just one of those lovely synchronous moments.
Here's the Tune from Oh Brother, Where Art Thou:
There's a dark & a troubled side of life
There's a bright, there's a sunny side, too
Tho' we meet with the darkness and strife
The sunny side we also may view
[cho:] Keep on the sunny side,
always on the sunny side,
Keep on the sunny side of life.
It will help us ev'ry day,
it will brighten all the way,
If we'll keep on the sunny side of life.
The storm and its fury broke today,
Crushing hopes that we cherish so dear;
Clouds and storms will, in time, pass away,
The sun again will shine bright and clear.
Let us greet with the song of hope each day,
Tho' the moment be cloudy or fair;
Let us trust in our Saviour away,
Who keepeth everyone in His care
